University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio - Sam Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity & Aging Studies

Representing The University of Texas System Office of Facilities Planning and Construction, Broaddus & Associates was responsible for project management services on The Sam and Ann Barshop Institute for Longevity and Aging Studies. Responsibilities included budget and schedule control, program coordination, design coordination, and administering the selection process for A/E teams and contractors. 

As an element of the growing presence of UTHC-SA research facilities at Texas Research Park west of San Antonio, this world-class project combines research labs and vivarium facilities designed and built to UT System and NIH standards.  Program components include four basic models of aging:

  • Cellular Aging
  • Invertebrate Aging
  • Transgenic Models of Aging
  • Human Genetics of Aging


The building includes spaces for laboratory research, computation research, research support, Laboratory Animal Resources (LAR), and administrative function.
