University of New Mexico Hospital - Critical Care Tower

Broaddus & Associates is serving as Program Manager on a new $752M Hospital Tower Project for the University of New Mexico Hospitals (UNMH) in Albuquerque. The program will include a 480,000-SF hospital tower with four 24-bed ICU units (96 beds), 16 operating rooms, diagnostic imaging and testing departments, medical offices, morgue, cafeteria, full basement, with central mechanical and electrical utilities plant. It will also include a 2,300-Car Parking Structure, including bridges to the hospital and a helipad. The project is proceeding with the anticipation to include a 38,000-SF Triage Emergency Center, which will expand the hospital’s capacity as the only Level 1 trauma center in the State of New Mexico.

UNMH currently houses the only certified burn unit and designated stroke center in the state, and as the only children’s hospital in New Mexico it is the state’s sole source of 13 pediatric sub-specialties. As New Mexico’s only academic medical center, it is the main teaching facility for the University of New Mexico School of Medicine. As a “safety net” hospital, UNMH serves a large percentage of the uninsured and under-insured population of the state. Dr. Paul Roth, chancellor of the Health Sciences Center, recently told regents that bed shortages force UNMH to deny 1,000 patient transfers from other hospitals around the state each year.

A future phase of the proposed building program will include the development of a new 100,000-SF medical office building on an adjacent site, with a second structured parking garage and second medical office building to follow. The Broaddus & Associates team is serving alongside UNMH facilities staff with a dedicated program management team through design and construction phases.
