HEALTHCARE

University Health - Women's & Children's Hospital

Broaddus & Associates served as the Overall Program Manager for the Women’s & Children’s Tower. UH is the public healthcare network for Bexar County, and is staffed by the faculty of UT Health San Antonio. The $838M project was completed in 4 phases and was successfully completed while minimizing disruption to ongoing operations and parking, keeping the entire Hospital open and in operation. The project added 570,700 SF of modern space, advanced technology, 300+ new beds and houses the only Level-1 Trauma Center in South Tx.

Extremely complex due to the inclusion of an Advanced Diagnostic Center with Heart, Vascular, and Endoscopy Suites built in shell space within the existing Sky Tower, and an emphasis on using cutting edge data/technologies. Phase I included the new Center on the 1st floor of the Sky Tower and the decommissioning of parking spaces in the existing north garage and two surface parking lots. These spaces were absorbed into the existing West Garage and temporary off-campus lots.

Phase 2, north garage and 2 surface lots were demo’d
clearing the site for the new Tower and new parking
structure. Phase 3 was construction of the Tower & garage.
Including 179 beds, separate EDs for pediatrics and
obstetrics-gynecology, a 24-bassinet nursery, 3 heart cath
labs and heart and vascular/advanced endoscopy center. Phase 3 built out level 12 and podium expansion shell space adding 123 beds and two cath labs. Phase 4 created additional shell space between the Women’s and Children’s Tower and the West Garage known as the Podium Expansion.
