South Texas College | Cooper Center for Performing & Communication Arts
Broaddus & Associates supported South Texas College in developing a pre-bond execution plan that contributed to a successful community-wide bond election. One of the program’s key projects was the 27,825-square-foot Cooper Center for Communication Arts, dedicated in 2008 in memory of Edinburg native and Vietnam veteran Lt. Edward “Ned” Pillow Cooper. A $1.3 million gift from his mother helped transform the project from a basic conference facility into a comprehensive performing arts center.
The state-of-the-art facility features a 197-seat performance theater, black-box theater, lighting and projection systems, costume shop, set workshop, conference center, classrooms, and faculty and staff offices. Designed by Boultinghouse Simpson Architects and constructed by Skanska USA using the Construction Manager-at-Risk delivery method, the project demonstrated Broaddus & Associates’ ability to successfully manage a significant scope change and deliver a versatile, high-quality arts facility.
