Following Hurricane Katrina, the City of Gulfport selected Broaddus & Associates as Program Manager for its multi-funded recovery program, including the ground-up construction of the 78,960-SF, three-story Robert J. Curry Public Safety Center. The facility houses Police Community Services, Municipal Courts, Police Administration, holding cells, a processing center, and two courtrooms. Designed to FEMA-361 standards, the facility serves as a first responder shelter for more than 275 personnel and can remain operational during power outages.

Broaddus & Associates led value engineering efforts that saved the City more than $500,000, allowing additional funds for updated furniture, fixtures, and equipment. The team also coordinated FEMA, MEMA, grant, and insurance funding and guided the design and construction team toward successful delivery. The project was completed on time and within budget in just 17 months, supporting the revitalization of Gulfport’s damaged downtown area.
