First Responder Facilities

Bastrop County Fire Station

Broaddus & Associates served as owner’s representative to the Tarrant County Commissioners Court for the development of a new jail facility and renovation of the existing corrections center in Fort Worth, Texas. The new building provides 444 maximum- security beds, a new kitchen, fourth-level medical wards, and a sky bridge and tunnel elements that connect to the existing Tarrant County Corrections Center. The classical façade design blends with the existing architecture, while meeting the County’s substantial growth needs on a difficult and restricted site. Functioning operationally as a stand-alone facility, the building includes a public service lobby, video visitation, facilities for detention staff, food service facilities (sized for 16,500 meals per day), service dock, secure evidence storage for district clerk and sheriff, and inmate housing for 432 high security, special management inmates. The special management units are made up of 96 medical/ mental health beds, 96 separation cells (male), 24 separation cells (female), 192 single cells (male) and 24 single cells (female).

Broaddus & Associates was responsible for management of the architect and construction manager as part of the total project scope. Our team re-evaluated the initial needs assessment and programming, which had a positive impact on design and used Best Practices such as the Project Definition Rating Index (PDRI) and value engineering on this project in order to ensure the scope remained as originally programmed, which resulted in the project being $5.9 million under budget with full scope. The project was completed on time, under budget and with zero deficiencies.

In addition, the team helped the County track and submit the sustainability requirements that earned this facility a LEED® Gold Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
