The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center retained Broaddus & Associates to assist in implementation of its ongoing $2B capital program. One of these projects is the 21-story T. Boone Pickens Academic Tower.
The 728,000 SF building houses faculty and staff offices, conference facilities, fitness centers with lockers and showers, materials management, loading docks, retail functions, dining area, deli for hot and cold food service, mailroom, connecting four-story plaza with roof terrace that attaches to the existing Faculty Center, and a 24-foot connection to the existing elevated pedestrian bridge system.
To administer this project, Broaddus & Associates was successfully embedded into the owner's capital planning & management department, acting as an extension of their facilities staff. The services provided by Broaddus & Associates included constructability reviews, independent estimating of pricing packages, an independent review of the schedule, value engineering and construction inspection services.
Broaddus & Associates was instrumental in administering the A/E and CM@R contracts, tracking the total project budget, and producing monthly budget and project summaries to executives. Through our team's management of the project, the designer's fees were kept in line and the contractor was held accountable to the drawings, specifications and general conditions. Broaddus & Associates' construction inspector was actively involved in field observations, ensuring the CM@R adhered to the contract specifications.
