Broaddus & Associates is serving Comal County as project manager on the construction of a new county jail and renovation of existing facilities in New Braunfels, Texas. The 155,000-square-foot jail will house approximately 600 inmates and include a 16-bed infirmary, a booking area with temporary holding cells, support areas, a detention administration area and visitation spaces for attorneys and families. The project is also slated to include an approximately 68,000-square-foot renovation of the existing jail into office and operational space for the Comal County Sheriff's Office.
Like many municipalities in the region, Comal County has experienced a rapid growth in population over the past 15 years, which has necessitated expanding facilities. In November 2015, Comal County voters approved a $76 million bond to support the construction and renovation associated with these improvements. The existing jail was built in 1985, and was expanded from a capacity of 144 inmates to 337 inmates in 1999. This new capital project will allow the county to address the growing need for resources to support the community.
Broaddus & Associates is serving full time on the project site as the owner's representative during all phases of the project in order to ensure the facilities are designed and constructed on schedule and within budget.
